Long Bio
Alexis Valianos teaches courses on cultural competence and communication research methods. After earning a master's in communication studies from Illinois State University, she came to Arizona State University and completed a doctorate in intercultural communication from the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication. Her research focuses on cultural adjustment and the role of language and social support in managing culture shock. She has taught at universities in the U.S. and abroad for the past 12 years. She is a certified mediator for the Phoenix Justice Courts and works as an intercultural trainer preparing sojourners for study abroad and faculty for international teacher exchanges.
