Wellington “Duke” Reiter, FAIA, is the Special Advisor to the President of Arizona State University. His responsibilities feature large, multi-stakeholder efforts in the areas of higher education, sustainable urbanism, and the advancement of the New American University mission at ASU.
He is also the Executive Director of the University City Exchange at ASU which works to develop mutually beneficial partnerships and outcomes for the institution and communities where university facilities are located. Mr. Reiter led the conceptualization of the award-winning Downtown Phoenix Campus for Arizona State University, and he has consulted with several American cities about the repositioning of their respective universities in urban settings.
He founded and is leading the Ten Across (10X) initiative which seeks to highlight the urgent issues facing the U.S. regarding water, energy and equity as revealed by the 2400-mile transect from Los Angeles to Jacksonville.
Reiter is the former Dean of the College of Design at Arizona State University, the past President of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a long-time faculty member in the MIT in the Department of Architecture. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute where he co-founded the University Development and Innovation Council dedicated to merging institutional and city interests.
