Gaby brings nearly 25 years of communications experience to the ASU Media Relations and Strategic Communications team. She currently serves as a senior media relations officer. She is a former anchor/reporter/producer and communications professional turned media relations pro.
Prior to joining the ASU MRSC team, she worked as a public servant for the Arizona Department of Transportation for ten years helping to transform Arizona with numerous multimodal infrastructure projects to serve the growing population. Engaging with multiple audiences, including government officials and community groups, she galvanized the public to provide input on critical transportation projects impacting communities.
Prior to joining ADOT, she was the main anchor for the CBS affiliate in Yuma, Arizona for more than four years. She has worked in several newsrooms throughout the state including, KVOA, KTVK, Univision and KAET. She also has experience working at a private public relations firm where she crafted strategic communication plans to diversify agency success and amplify strategic messaging for multiple clients.
Gaby is passionate about helping people and making a difference in the community. Working at ASU MRSC has allowed her to combine her passion of news and public service by learning more about cutting-edge research taking place at the nation’s most innovative university and working with media partners to share information and student success stories broadly.
A proud Nogales, Arizona native, Gaby is bilingual in Spanish and loves cultivating relationships and meeting new people. She earned her BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and minored in Political Science. A lifelong learner, she looks forward to starting her master’s journey this year.
