Daniel McIntosh’s research focuses on the application of data analytics to professional sport, athlete performance, and fan behavior. His early work examined player movement patterns using SportVU player-tracking data, with an emphasis on spatial positioning, speed, acceleration, and workload metrics. Through collaborations with NBA teams, this work contributed to the exploration and piloting of novel performance indicators used to better understand on-court behavior and physical demands.
More recently, his applied research and consulting work has supported return-to-play and performance monitoring initiatives in paddle sports, building on his prior experience working with professional basketball organizations. In addition to athlete analytics, his research interests include the impact of legalized sports gambling on team revenues, league economics, and fan engagement. His work in this area has informed public discussion and has been cited in regional and national media outlets as part of broader conversations around sports analytics, regulation, and consumer behavior.
