Kim Marrone Beckert (Ed.D.) serves as Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) on the Undergraduate Education team in the Arizona State University (ASU) Office of the University Provost. In this role, Dr. Beckert provides leadership in developing and executing strategy for the effective utilization and integration of technology and data to support undergraduate student success. Developing and implementing learner-centered approaches, Dr. Beckert’s teams coordinate across ASU’s colleges and central university partners to drive undergraduate academic and student success priorities.
Dr. Beckert values authenticity, transparency, and collaboration as evidenced by her contributions developing efficient business practices, streamlining processes, and leading teams to effectively use data and technology for data-infused decision making. Dr. Beckert brings particular focus to ensuring the work of her teams is appropriately positioned and operationalized within the organization’s strategic vision and framework.
Prior to joining the Office of the University Provost, Dr. Beckert served ASU’s The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (The College) as Executive Director, leading academic strategic planning in The College Dean’s office, Office of Student and Academic Programs. Dr. Beckert and her team supported The College and its departments by developing and implementing strategic planning related to curriculum development, catalog review, degree requirement audits, course enrollment projections, course scheduling, degree program assessment, and data analysis and reporting. To accomplish this work, Dr. Beckert and her teams established a system of expectations, analysis, tools, and communication strategies with and across The College’s academic units and in collaboration with central ASU service units and partner colleges to effectively orient the strategy and implementation. Dr. Beckert played a key role in The College’s transition to the Armstrong Hall Advising Hub (i.e., centralization of new and first-year student support services), creating efficiencies around academic processes and increasing accessibility to data. Dr. Beckert also oversaw the launch of The College Enrollment Planning and Data Analytics site, which now houses self-service reports, dashboards, and tools to serve The College leadership, academic units, Armstrong Hall Advising Hub, and the general ASU community.
In her 20+ year career, Dr. Beckert has worked in a variety of roles within higher education, including Online learning, grant evaluation, teacher preparation program assessment and evaluation, student affairs, educational policy, and university-community partnerships. Prior to joining ASU in 2005, she worked in the IT field as a functional designer and consultant to various states’ child support and child welfare agencies.
Dr. Beckert holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies—Higher & Postsecondary Education from ASU; an M.Ed. in Higher & Postsecondary Education from ASU; and a BA in Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
