Ryan Holden

My original bachelor's degree was in business and finance because I didn't want to be poor anymore. Both my parents went into the military right out of high school, so I had to figure out college (multiple times). I worked for a mutual fund company for a few years before going back to school to figure out what I actually wanted to do with my life. Took a bunch of random classes at ASU (still felt like my first time navigating college, especially in my mid-20s with no focus) and found an interest in creative writing and English. From there, went to grad school at ASU in the MFA Creative Writing Program. Started teaching during grad school and found out I really enjoyed it. I have a passion for encouraging student self-determination and self-advocacy. Watching students learn and grow into the version of themselves they envision is a wonderful experience and something I really enjoy being a part of. Another focus is on information literacy and how to cut through overload of misinformation and get to the most accurate info available.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling and learning more about the world and all of the people living on it.
