Tahnee Baker

Dr. Tahnee Baker is the Baccalaureate Program Director and an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She helps to oversee the BSW and BACASP programs, working collaboratively with the Practicum Education Office and academic advising to strengthen student success and the overall learning experience.

Her teaching and leadership focus on advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within social work education. She serves as lead instructor for SWU 374: Diversity and Oppression in the Social Work Context and SWU 498: Indigenous Social Policy and Advocacy, courses that reflect her expertise in culturally grounded practice, Indigenous social policy, and social justice.

Dr. Baker’s research background focuses on advancing Indigenous research methods in social work, with an emphasis on equity, student engagement, and culturally responsive pedagogy. She has collaborated on projects addressing systemic racism, curriculum development, and Indigenous perspectives in social work education.

Beyond her teaching and research, Dr. Baker contributes to community-centered initiatives at ASU, including her service on the ASU Pow Wow Committee, which strengthens relationships with tribal communities and advances ASU’s mission to serve Indigenous peoples. She is a member of the BPD Systemic Racism/Faculty of Color Joint Committee, where she helps organize national conversations and student-centered events addressing race, politics, and social work.

As an Apache/Navajo woman and social worker, Dr. Baker brings lived experience and cultural knowledge into her work, centering Indigenous perspectives, student advocacy, and inclusive pedagogy in higher education.
