Dr. Shad is a nationally recognized leader in integrative health, culinary medicine, and lifestyle medicine who is actively engaged in creating innovative solutions to promote health and longevity. Dr. Shad is a distinguished graduate of Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University and has obtained both his Medical Doctorate and Masters of Public Health from the University of Arizona. He completed his medical residency training at the Stanford University School of Medicine and subsequently served as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.
Acting to transform and redesign medical education, he has served on the faculty at Stanford University and at The University of Arizona (UofA) to train future physicians with the tools they need to prevent and reverse chronic disease by addressing its root causes. At the UofA, he served as the founding Director of The Culinary Medicine Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix and the co-founder of the UArizona Culinary Medicine Initiative which created a nationally recognized open-access textbook of Culinary Medicine.
Working to expand our knowledge, Dr. Shad has undertaken research, published articles and medical textbook chapters on disease prevention, nutrition and complementary and alternative medicine since 1997. He has written two book chapters on Integrative Preventive Medicine in the most recent book of the Weil Integrative Medicine Library. As an emerging thought leader, he has published in the New England Journal of Medicine where he and his co-author make the case for redesigning medicine to create a prevention based health care system.
As a practicing physician, Dr. Shad provides lifestyle and food prescriptions for his patients to extend their life span. As a healthcare leader, Dr. Shad served as the inaugural Medical Director at One Medical Arizona, an innovative technology-enabled primary care model recognized by health care leadership awards, where he saw patients and served as Medical Director of Clinical Partnerships and Strategy.
He currently serves at Arizona State University as associate professor of clinical practice at the John Shufeldt School of Medicine, Adjunct Faculty at the College of Health Solutions, and as the founding Executive Director of Whole Health and the Integrative Health and Lifestyle Medicine Institute at HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Arizona where he is creating innovative clinical models including a longevity program to shift us from “sick” care to health care. Dr. Shad has been featured in national media as a trusted voice on practical, science-based wellness. His pioneering work bridges cutting-edge research with real-life application to help people live longer, healthier, and more vibrant lives. Dr. Shad’s first full length book for the general public, “Longevity Made Simple: Live Healthier for Longer with the DRESS Code,” will be published in January 2026.
