Donna Velasquez has been a registered nurse for more than 40 years and a family nurse practitioner since 1985. She is a graduate of Arizona State University College of Nursing, obtained a master’s in community health from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in nursing at the University of Arizona. She completed a year of postdoctoral study at the University of Arizona's Exploratory Center on Injury Mechanisms and Related Responses where she examined biomarkers of pain and stress in cognitively impaired elders and veterans with PTSD. Professor Velasquez is the DNP Program Director at Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Her scholarship is focused on DNP education and outcomes. She and her colleagues developed a conceptual model explicating a the roles of Ph.D. and DNP-prepared graduates in generating theory-based knowledge.
