Bio
Carol Hughes was the media relations officer for ASU’s Office
of Knowledge Enterprise Development (OKED) as well as the Global
Institute of Sustainability and the School of
Sustainability. Hughes is a member of the National Association of
Science Writers, Association for Women in Science, International
Association of Business Communicators/Phoenix and National Federation
of Press Women.
Previously, Hughes served as senior director of media relations for
ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and as director of
public relations for ASU's West campus. Prior to her arrival at the
university, she served as public information officer for an Arizona
K-12 public school district. Her previous work in higher education
includes serving as the executive director for the Arizona Community
College Association. She also worked as a project manager/editor for
the Undergraduate School of Business at the University of Phoenix.
Hughes is a native of Chicago, where she worked as a news reporter
and editor before moving into a career in public policy and government
affairs. She has a Master of Liberal Studies degree from Arizona State
University and a bachelor's degree from North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois.
Her newest book, “Skirting Traditions: Arizona Women Writers
and Journalists 1912-2012,” is an anthology produced by Arizona
Press Women as an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project. Hughes is a
