Emeritus Professor Robert Stahl served in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (formerly College of Education) for 32 years. He was in the Emeritus College at ASU from 2010 until his death in 2022.

1994-95 Served as President of the 25,000 member National Council for the Social Studies and Chaired the organizations Annual Conference, which attracted 4,700 registrants.
1992-97 Served on the Board of Directors of the National Council for the Social Studies.
Served as Chair of the AERA SIG Advisory Group, and represented SIGs on the AERA Board of Directors
The Arizona Council for the Social Studies since 2010 annual presents the "Robert J. Stahl Outstanding Social Studies Student Teaching Award" to a student teacher for his/her performance during his or her student teaching internship
