Steve Lewis is a psychology lecturer in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences on the West campus. Lewis received his doctorate from Arizona State University in Educational Psychology in 1989, focusing on adolescent development. He also received his master's degree in clinical psychology from San Diego State in 1976, and his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in 1973. His professional clinical career has included the Children’s Division at the Arizona State Hospital, the Verde Valley Guidance Clinic, and as a school psychologist in the Paradise Valley School District. He has held professional certification as a school psychologist since 1978, and began teaching at ASU in 2005.
Lewis’ research operates out of the Perception of Others Virtual Laboratory, wherein lab activities are online. Team meetings occur in numerous locations, including the West campus, Tempe campus and SkySong facilities within ASU, various off campus locations, as well as online. His primary area of research examines how we perceive others, including the processes of impression formation and stereotyping, and how our judgment of individuals with disabilities is affected. His second area of research focuses on context effects in the decision of guilt and innocence of crimes. All research studies are online experiments.
Lewis teaches a variety of courses, with a primary focus on statistics and research methods. Social, developmental, abnormal, and cognitive psychology classes continue to be interwoven within his course work. He is currently teaching both online and traditional brick and mortar courses.

My research interest is dedicated to the use of the internet and online studies to investigate our perception of others, specifically understanding the differential ratings of individuals with disabilities on a variety of attributes and appraisals. The research team is also studying how others rate the probability of a suspect being convicted of a criminal offense depending on the background presented (context) in a video.
