Bio
Currently, Dr. Golden serves as the Executive Director in the ASU Alumni Association working to advance the interest of the university’s alumni and served as a lifelong connection between the university and graduated Sun Devils. The ASU Alumni Association serves more than 650,000 Sun Devils throughout the state of Arizona, across the country and around the world. Businesses, organizations and alumni can engage with the ASU Alumni Association through various alumni programs, initiatives and signature events that deliver memorable Sun Devil experiences. Tap into a global network of maroon and gold spirit and ASU graduates who fuel the country’s most innovative university. As a second generation Sun Devil, plus being a double Devil herself, Amy is thrilled to advance affinity for Arizona State University.
Previously, Dr. Golden served as the Interim Dean of Students on the Downtown Phoenix Campus as well as the Assistant Dean of Students at for ten years at both the Tempe and Downtown Phoenix Campuses, providing leadership in numerous areas and for special projects. She served as part of the senior leadership team for the Deputy Vice President and Dean of Students. Amy provided strategic support ASU Family and New Student Programs (Orientation) offices as the primary orientation presenter. In addition to providing direct, individual outreach to student and families throughout their collegiate career, Amy provided on-going vision and response to the university wide education, awareness and values of Community of Care and Free Speech on campus. She served as a core member of the Situational Response Team (SRT) along with numerous other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the university.
As Executive Director for TRIO programs, Dr. Golden provided unifying leadership for nine TRIO programs at ASU: Upward Bound - Tempe, Upward Bound West, Veteran's Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services and Student Support Services - STEM across all ASU locations. TRIO is a set of federally funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. An estimated 790,000 low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities are served by over 2,800 TRIO programs nationally.
Prior to working with TRIO, Amy served as the Director for Strategic Initiatives and Director of Student & Cultural Engagement (SCE), a university-wide unit within the Dean of Students office under Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS). Student & Cultural Engagement supports and advocates for the institutional goals of diversity and inclusion, fosters the understanding of and appreciation for the multitude of cultures, traditions and histories reflected in the campus community. Furthermore, Dr. Golden was the inaugural Director for Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services, Director for the Obama Scholars Program and Director for Residence Education in University Housing.
Amy retains several years of instructional design, program development, facilitation experience and thirty years of management experience within Student Affairs at the three largest, state institutions across the country: The Ohio State University, The University of Texas at Austin, and Arizona State University. Amy has extensive experience in student development translating theory into practice in Academic Affairs (Adjunct Faculty) and Student Affairs (University Housing, Residential Life, Off-Campus Student Services, Dean of Students Office).
Amy is qualified in mediation, communication skill building, accountability training, diversity and equity programming and training, program assessment, evaluation and establishing learning outcomes. Amy’s research interests centers around First-Generation college students (FGCS), Latina persistence, the Sophomore Year experience, mentoring and student engagement. Additionally, Dr. Golden continues to enjoy serving as an active adjunct faculty associate in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU within the Higher and Post-secondary Education Master's program and at Paradise Valley Community College in the Counseling Department.
