Katie Gerrich is a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Music, Dance, and Theatre at Arizona State University. A conductor, mezzo-soprano, and collaborative pianist, she is passionate about helping students discover and cultivate their musical identities through meaningful, student-centered music education.
Gerrich earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northern Arizona University, where she studied with Dr. Edith Copley, Dr. Alan Rieck, and Mrs. Sally Hanson. At ASU, she conducts the Barrett Symphonic Choir and Canticum Bassum (tenor/bass choir) and teaches The Art of Teaching Beginning and Advanced Vocalists.
Prior to her appointment at ASU, Gerrich served as Director of Choirs at McClintock High School in Tempe for 20 years. During her tenure, she led award-winning ensembles and fostered a thriving choral community. She is the immediate past President of the Arizona Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (AzACDA) and has also served as the Arizona All-State Jazz Choir Chair and the Arizona Southwest Regional Choir Chair.
A frequent presenter at state music education conferences, Gerrich is also an active clinician, adjudicator, and collaborative pianist. In 2024, she was recognized as Arizona’s representative in School Band and Orchestra Magazine’s “50 Music Teachers Who Make a Difference.”
