"Marvin Tahmahkera entered the law
enforcement profession when he became a police cadet for the Palos
Hills, Illinois Police Department in 1987. Later that year, he
was also hired as a desk officer for the police department where his
duties included police dispatching, clerical work and training other
desk officers. In 1988, Mr. Tahmahkera graduated with an
Associates of Applied Sciences degree in Criminal Justice for the
Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois. From
1989 to 1991, he worked in the private security industry for various
companies in Illinois and Arizona.
In 1991, Mr. Tahmahkera joined the
Arizona State University Police Department in Tempe, Arizona as a
patrol officer. In 1993 he became a field training officer for
the organization and later became the field training
coordinator. In that same year, he was promoted to the rank of
corporal and achieved his General Instructor's certification through
the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training (AZPOST) Board in
Phoenix. In 1996, Mr. Tahmahkera was promoted to the rank of
sergeant and became the department's field training sergeant.
AZPOST has recognized Mr. Tahmahkera as a Subject Matter Expert in the
field of patrol procedures and operations. Mr. Tahmahkera was
exclusively a patrol sergeant until 2003, when he was assigned the new
position of Training Coordinator for the ASU Police. In 2007,
Mr. Tahmahkera was re-assigned back to the field
training division to exclusively oversee that program. In
2013, Mr. Tahmahkera retired from the Arizona State University Police
Department and is currently working as a police officer with the
Maricopa County Community College District Police Department.
Mr. Tahmahkera was a member of the
American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers until the organization
disbanded in 2006. He has taught classes and provided
instruction at the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy, the
Glendale Community College Police Academy, the Arizona Law Enforcement
Academy and the Mesa Police Academy. During 2005 and 2006, Mr.
Tahmahkera was a contract instructor for the Criminal Justice
Institute in Little Rock, Arkansas teaching "Field Training for
the 21st Century". In 2013, Mr. Tahmahkera became an
adjunct instructor for the Lamar Institute of Technology Regional
Police Academy in Beaumont, Texas.
Mr. Tahmahkera holds AZPOST specialty
instructor certificates in high risk vehicle stops, defensive tactics,
impact weapons and chemical agents. He specializes in officer
safety and survival training. Mr. Tahmahkera has also been
recognized as an instructor in mobile field force and crowd control
response tactics and further assists the ASU Police firearms training
staff in the topics of building searches, low light survival, high
risk entry and active shooter response."
Mr. Tahmahkera is a member of the
National Tactical Officer's Association.
