Liz Harrell

Dr. Harrell is a licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner and has specialized in the care of adult populations experiencing substance abuse and mental health disorders for over 30 years. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with those in substance use treatment, community mental health centers, residential settings and acute psychiatric hospital recovery.

Dr. Harrell has experience in involuntary court-ordered evaluation/treatment, detox, serious mentally ill (SMI), and general mental health services, and has 15 years of experience in the development of integrated licensed clinical services. Dr. Harrell has received national recognition for developing interprofessional community academic partnerships in her dual role of community provider and while professor at Edson’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University (ASU).

She also served as the Associate Director of Interprofessional Practice & Community Engagement with the Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education and Practice (CAIPER) at ASU and was responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of student interprofessional engagement opportunities. Currently, Dr. Harrell serves as the Doctor of Behavioral Health Program Director, participates as a Hub member for two ECHO Health Programs, and contributes to the ongoing strategic design of ASU's SOMME interprofessional curriculum. Dr. Harrell's academic career, spanning over 20 years, has been dedicated to advancing interprofessional practice among vulnerable populations, and she has advocated at the micro, meso, and macro structural and systems levels for health parity.
