Barbara Ainsworth is a Regents Professor Emerita with expertise in physical activity assessment, including the areas of physical activity epidemiology, surveillance of physical activity, physical activity in women, and environmental supports for physical activity. She is the lead author for the Adult Compendium of Physical Activities.
Among her recent honors and awards are services as president (2012) and Honor Award recipient (2018) with the American College of Sports Medicine; the McCloy Lecturer (2018), a Lifetime Achievement Award from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, & Nutrition (2015), and University of Minnesota-Duluth College of Education Distinguished Alumni Award (2015) and Twin Cities College of Education Top 100 Graduates from 1906-2006.
Ainsworth is a fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology and the American College of Sports Medicine.
