DEBORAH SUSSMAN earned an MA in English/Creative Writing from Hollins University and an MFA in Fiction from the University of Virginia, where she was a Henry Hoyns Fellow. Her undergraduate degree (Comparative Literature) is from Smith College. She has taught creative writing at the University of Virginia and Phoenix College as well as through Changing Hands Bookstore, and she developed and taught a course in writing art and design criticism at Arizona State University. Formerly an editor at Scholastic and at the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, Sussman is the senior director of communications and marketing for ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Her critical writing has appeared in Art in America, artforum.com, ARTnews and the Washington Post; she is a contributor to the Los Angeles Review of Books.
