His overarching research interests mainly involve minority (both sexual and racial minority) family dynamics but also include gender studies, Hispanic health issues, substance abuse disorders, and LGBT community interventions. He is currently helping to develop a Parent Component for the Keepin' It REAL youth drug prevention program. He received his masters in July 2009 with his integrative mixed-methods thesis that examined the relationship of machismo and resilience in Hispanic men. He is currently developing a study examining lesbian and gay (LG) families and the effects of discrimination, biological relatedness, and degree of "outness" on LG parenting.
