Gerri Lamb (PhD, RN, FAAN) is a research professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Her research emphasis is on improving primary care outcomes. Her substantive focus areas are care coordination and high performance teamwork.
Professor Lamb came to ASU in 2008 from an endowed chair position at Emory University to guide the development of a robust program for interprofessional practice and education. She is the founding director of ASU's Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research. During her tenure as Director, the Center received over three million dollars in funding for research and education on interprofessional practice and teamwork from a number of sources including the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Association of Community Health Centers.
Educational materials developed by the Center including first of its kind micro-learning modules and digital magazines on teamwork in primary care have been used by over 40,000 faculty, students and clinicians across the US. In 2022, the Center received the prestigious George T. Thibault Award from the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education for its contributions to interprofessional education and practice. Dr. Lamb also was selected as one of the first two Distinguished Nexus Scholars for the National Center.
Widely recognized as a leading expert on care coordination practice and measurement, Professor Lamb has influenced the development of community-based care coordination and national frameworks for measuring the process and outcomes of care coordination. She has chaired multiple measurement committees at the National Quality Forum including the Committee on Leveraging the EHR to improve Care Coordination and now serves on the Geriatric Measurement Advisory Committee for the National Committee on Quality Assurance.
Since 2020, Dr. Lamb has been co-PI on the Transforming the Primary Care Workforce Project, a collaboration between Arizona State University and Dignity Health. The project, funded by the ASU-Dignity Health Research Initiatives and ASU's Knowledge Enterprise, is piloting new and innovative strategies to build much-needed workforce capacity and improve outcomes in primary care through student integration in primary care teams, the use of enhanced patient care technologies and data analytics and active engagement of university innovation centers and local communities.
