Long Bio

Hanna Breetz is an Associate Professor in the School of Sustainability, where she directs the interdisciplinary PhD program in Sustainable Energy.

She is a political scientist who studies the political economy of clean energy policy. Her research examines the stakeholder politics across all stages of policymaking, including agenda setting, policy design, enactment, and implementation. She is particularly interested in the co-evolution of politics and technology, including how policy actors deploy technical information to influence policymaking as well as how policy design choices affects innovation and technology commercialization. Her research focuses on the transportation sector (biofuels, synthetic fuels, electric vehicles), with some more recent work on renewable electricity and just transitions.
