kim peace-tuskey, DrPH, MSW, currently serves as a faculty associate in the School of Social Work of the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University and the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. As a Doctor of Public Health and a social worker, Dr. peace-tuskey has worked in child and family welfare, counseling, community health, nonprofit leadership, and academic instruction for over 20 years. Through diverse professional and academic experiences, peace-tuskey has a robust background in counseling support, research and evaluation, participatory methods for community health, health equity programming, and community-based advocacy. Her work is focused on the impacts of social and structural determinants of health on the overall well-being of underserved and underrepresented communities.
Dr. peace-tuskey’s areas of specialized research include individual and community health conditions related to discrimination, geopolitical border issues, inequity, and the function of stress response systems. Through intersectional and community participatory methods, peace-tuskey collaborates with groups to identify systemic barriers that impact health, as well as engages with existing community strengths and resources to best support solution-focused initiatives. Dr. peace-tuskey has served on many projects, including the Community-based Women’s Well-Being (CWW) Study, CoVHORT CATS (Child and Teen Study), Teens’ Joking Interactions: Associations with Cultural Values and Dating Violence among Mexican American Couples, Mapping Q for Sexual and Gender Minority Youth, State of Arizona PS-MAPP Initiative, Thrive in ’05!, and Best for Babies. Through the years, she has dedicated her life to building programs that are both data-driven and community-centered, working across multi-sectoral partnerships, and advocating for health equity. She strives to elevate the opportunity for each individual to attain their full health potential, and to co-create conditions where no one is disadvantaged from achieving their potential due to social location or other structural and socially-constructed determinants.
