My name is Johrdyn Lorden, I love mathematics and teaching. I believe in making mathematics accessible and enjoyable to students. I have worked at this in many different environments and with a diverse population of students. Mathematics is a wonder that brings me much joy, but for many students it is a bane.
It is always enjoyable to share math with students who also feel that this area of study is a beautiful thing, but it is the students who fear math that need our help. Second Language learners, special needs learners, and those who have not been taught a growth mindset can benefit from a variety of techniques and tools that are becoming ever more readily available thanks to human innovation, ingenuity, and sharing of knowledge. I have worked with students using tools such as Desmos, creating games and personalized lessons to help students with Math Anxiety see the intuitive structures in mathematics. Collaborative work on math using tools like google docs and sheets can bring the social aspect into math in a less fear inducing environment.
The more engaged and less anxious a student is, the better they learn, and the better they will be able to handle numerical and logical operations that arise in their future. By caring about my students and showing them that these subjects are worthy of enthusiasm, I hope to make their future a little less fearful and a little more in their control.

While I am currently fully engaged with student instruction, I would be very interested in research to make mathematics learning more accessible to high-needs students. I would particularly like to find more engaging methods for nero-diverse students.
