Mr. Erik Schmitz is the Associate Director of SEVIS and Technology at the International Students and Scholars Center at Arizona State University (ASU). In this role, he leads the technology team responsible for developing and managing systems that support data management, communication, documentation, immigration compliance, and academic services for international students, scholars, staff, and stakeholders across ASU.
Mr. Schmitz also serves as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO), overseeing federal F-1 student and institutional regulatory compliance for all SEVIS-certified ASU campuses in Arizona, California, and Washington, D.C.
With over 30 years of experience in international education and academic and government relations, Mr. Schmitz has lived and worked in the United States, Indonesia, and Sweden. He has been with ASU for 15 years and previously held leadership roles in immigration compliance and technology at Johns Hopkins University and St. Cloud State University.
Outside of work, Mr. Schmitz enjoys gardening, traveling, learning new languages, and spending time with his family.
