Bruce Glenn

Dr. Glenn teaches the principles of argumentation and civil discourse, business and professional writing, creative non-fiction, and literature for students in the Barrett Honors College, the W.P. Carey School of Business, and the ASU academic community.

Over the past 15 years, Dr. Glenn has conducted a series of humor and language studies with his colleague Professor Larry Barron of Grand Canyon University. Together, they have made seven presentations based on these studies at the International Society for Humor Studies annual conference.

For the past several years, Dr. Glenn has developed and used in his classroom a new approach to improve civil discourse called the "Five-Step Conflict Exploration" protocol. This process has been tested and improved with student input. A recent study of this protocol, testing whether humor increases empathy among participants, was accepted as a conference presentation at the 2023 International Society of Humor Studies at Boston University.
