Leslie Landrum is a senior research scientist and ASU Herbarium Curator. He investigates the evolution and classification of the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), the group to which guavas, allspice, cloves, and Eucalyptus belong. He also studies the genus Berberis (Berberidaceae) in Chile.
Landrum is involved in monographic studies of the guava (Psidium guajava) and its relatives, a complex of about 150 species. One research challenge has been defining limits of Psidium. With help from SEM studies, Landrum and a collaborator discovered seed coat characteristics that clearly separate the genus from others.
He contributes to Southwest Environmental Information Network (SEINet) a website that presents specimen data in user-friendly ways. Landrum is co-editor of contributions to the Vascular Plants of Arizona Project, and publisher of CANOTIA, an ASU Herbarium journal supported by the Arizona Native Plant Society.
PhD, University of Michigan, 1980
