Rik Boberg is an accomplished design leader with more than 30 years of experience in visual communication, creative direction and strategic marketing. He currently serves as Assistant Director, Design for Academic Enterprise Communications at Arizona State University, where he has led a team of designers and student workers for more than 13 years. In this role, he oversees the development of high-impact marketing and communications materials that support student enrollment and recruitment initiatives while advancing the university's strategic goals.
Beyond his work at ASU, Rik is the founder and creative director of Monroe68, an independent design studio specializing in visual storytelling for the music industry and advocacy-focused organizations. His work includes album artwork, packaging, posters, merchandise and brand identity for musicians and bands, as well as design that supports advocacy, social awareness and civic engagement. Through Monroe68, Rik believes design can do more than communicate—it can challenge perspectives, foster dialogue and amplify voices that speak truth to power.
Throughout his career, Rik has remained passionate about using design as both a strategic communication tool and a catalyst for connection, bringing together creativity, purpose and audience-centered storytelling.
Outside of work, Rik enjoys attending live music performances, traveling, overlanding, designing T-shirts and creating linocut prints. His interests also include classic films such as Jaws and Godzilla, documentaries, true crime, and the cultures of Hawaii and Japan. Rik and his wife have welcomed 62 international exchange students from nine countries into their home over the past 18 years, creating lifelong friendships and meaningful cultural connections.
