Cam DeCaussin

Cam DeCaussin draws inspiration from the emptiness found in everyday space and its ability to evoke themes of solace, sadness, and contemplation. His art captures fleeting moments within neighborhood homes during the seemingly tranquil hours between dawn and dusk, revealing brief moments of life within. Existing within the delicate balance of observation and voyeurism, each painting brings the viewer into a multifaceted narrative unfolding before them, reminding viewers of their place within a vast, interconnected universe. DeCaussin’s work serves as a reminder that we are not the sole being, but rather we exist in many different stories, if only for a few brief seconds.

Influenced by the iconic works of painter Edward Hopper and photographer Gregory Crewdson, DeCaussin uses oil paint to imbue his compositions with intricate detail, moments of light and color, enigmatic energy, and an ambiguous mystery within his subjects.

DeCaussin is represented by Royse Contemporary, in Scottsdale. He received formal training with a Bachelor's of Fine Art in Illustration from Grand Valley State University and a Master's Fine Art in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University. His captivating pieces have graced numerous prestigious exhibitions, including the Arizona Biennial at the Tucson Museum of Art and shows at notable venues such as: Renmin University of China in Beijing; Torrance Art Museum in Torrance, California; RAE Space for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Germany, Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio; Mesa Contemporary Museum of Art in Mesa, Arizona; Appaloosa Library of Scottsdale, Arizona, curated by Scottsdale Public Art; Fine Art Complex 1101 in Tempe, Arizona; Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery in Chandler, Arizona; Eric Fischl Gallery at Phoenix College; Shemer Art Center, Phoenix; Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona.

In 2022, DeCaussin presented his work to the Men’s Arts Council of the Phoenix Art Museum. His work has garnered attention in esteemed publications like New American Painting West Competition, Luxe Interior + Design, Phoenix Home and Garden, Phoenix Magazine 2023 Local Gift Guide, and Phoenix New Times.
