Deborah Deacon is an art historian whose work includes the art of East and Southeast Asia;, animation, film and comics; textiles; and women, war and art. She primarily works with Japanese manga/anime and western popular culture. Her research focuses on art made by women in response to war and on depictions of military women in popular culture.
Professor Deacon is involved in community activities, serving as a speaker throughout the Phoenix area, including Phoenix Comicon/FanFest. She served as the President of the Asian Arts Council at the Phoenix Art Museum for four years and has curated exhibitions on textiles of war, Japanese manga and anime, and photographs of India.
She teaches class in the Art of Asia, Chinese Art, Anime, The History of Comics and The History of Animation.
