Alan Goldman

Professor Alan Goldman is Faculty Director for the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU's West Campus. His areas of teaching, research and interest include: cross cultural management; leadership; organizational behavior and negotiation. Goldman is active in the Barrett Honors Program where he serves as Chair of Honors Theses and oversees numerous honors contracts.

Professor Goldman is widely published in business, international management, and managerial psychology journals and his writings and research references appear in the Washington Post, the New York Times and a variety of media outlets. Goldman is a writer for Psychology Today and his columnm and acticles on toxic leaders are a regular feature addressing overcoming challenges in the workplace. Professor Goldman has served as an Editor for the Journal of Managerial Psychology and as a writer for the Bush (41) Administration's international diplomacy publication Trade Around the World.

Professor Goldman was the recipient of the ASU "Last Lecture Award" for research excellence. Goldman has also received three awards for top papers at the Academy of Management, 2005 to present.  

Goldman's research and specialization is in: destructive and dysfunctional organizations; toxic leadership; and counterproductive workplace behavior. In addition to his journal publications he is the author of two most recent books: "Transforming Toxic Leaders" published by Stanford University Press and "Destructive Leaders and Dysfunctional Organizations" published by Cambridge University Press. Professor Goldman is currently working on two new books addressing toxic corporations, leadership and workplaces, and destructive executive suite behavior.

Goldman brings international teaching and consulting experience into his undergraduate and graduate classrooms. He recently served as a Visiting Professor of Leadership and OB for the graduate program at the University of Lyon, France. The professor innovated and delivered his new toxic leadership course to the bilingual French/English Master's Program in Lyon. Professor Goldman has also been active internationally as an Executive Coach, Management Consultant, Speaker, Speechwriter and Corportate Trainer for executives and companies in Japan, the U.S., Israel and the U.K. Clients have included Nissan Japan, Nissan U.S., John C. Lincoln Hospital; Sumitomo, JVC: Japan Victor Corporation, TaiSei, Tokyo Electron and others. Goldman also has had numerous journal publications and several published books on U.S. - Japanese business available in the U.S., Japan and worldwide, including "Doing Business with the Japanese" (SUNY Press) and "For Japanese Only: Doing Business with Americans (The Japan Times)."

Professor Goldman is an active member of the ASU Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics. And he is also active in WPC faculty leadership and administration.
