Dr. Brad Doebbeling is professor of Science of Health Care Delivery and Biomedical Informatics in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. His clinical experience includes providing medical care for adults, working in primary and tertiary care as a consulting general internist and infectious diseases specialist. Dr. Doebbeling has specific research and methodological training in clinical preventive services, health services research, implementation science, biomedical informatics, complexity science and systems reengineering. His research expertise is in health care and systems redesign, and population and health informatics. His work focuses in clinical workflow, information systems, system redesign and information technology development and innovation. He has served in various roles as a research center director, department chair, hospital epidemiologist, QI director and lead multiple community research collaboratives. He was founding PI of the NIH Clinical Research Curriculum Award (K30), and NIH K12 Grant: Mentored Clinical Research Scholar Program Award at University of Iowa, as well as several other research training grants from AHRQ and VA at Indiana University and the Indianapolis VA. His leadership roles include clinical programs, research and development centers and academic departments. He codeveloped and pitched the idea of establishing VA Engineering Resource Centers, which were subsequently implemented in the VA healthcare system to bring healthcare engineering and redesign expertise to clinical operations. His research program has been very well funded and highly productive. He has received multiple awards for his teaching, research, leadership and service. He is currently involved with local health care systems, community health care centers and redesign efforts to engage stakeholders in redesigning health care delivery and develop novel technology, especially for high cost, high need patients.

His research expertise is in health care and systems redesign, and population and health informatics. His work focuses in clinical workflow, information systems, system redesign and information technology development and innovation. His research program has been very well funded and strives for impact, productivity and dissemination. He was founding PI on a Center of Excellence Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which established the Center for Implementing Evidence-based Practice in Indianapolis. He led the development, funding , recruitment and building external funding over the next seven years to over 20 faculty and a multifold increase in funding. His team has published over 190 peer-reviewed articles, 50 chapters and reviews and been PI on over $36M in peer-reviewed funding. He has served on multiple review panels for NIH, AHRQ and VA, including AHRQ’s Health Systems and Value Research Panel, and NIH's Mobile Applications in Low and Middle Income Countries.
His work group is interdisciplinary, collaborative, and uses partnership, teamwork, engagement and analytics to drive system transformation. He regularly reviews for multiple agencies including NIH, CDC, VA, AHRQ, DoD and PCORI, as well as multiple medical and health services journals. He recently received the 2020 Top 100 Healthcare Leaders Award, International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare (IFAH) Conference (formerly Smart Health). In May 2020, he also received the ASU College of Health Solutions Outstanding Faculty Award in Translational Science.
He is coleader of the ASU College of Health Solutions Translational Team on COVID-19, coleader of the CHS Translational Team on High Cost, High Needs Patients and on ASU's Health Data Working Group, which focuses on improving care and health equity for vulnerable populations.

Dr. Doebbeling has been an active member of the Society of General Internal Medicine for over 10 years, serving on a variety of committees, including as Chair of the Development Committee. He has also been an active member of American Medical Informatics Association for over 12 years, with service on multiple committees and workgroups.
Dr. Doebbeling has mentored over 60 junior faculty, fellows and doctoral students, with over 12 receiving peer-reviewed research career awards and most in academic or industry roles in the US and Europe.
He served for 5 years on the VA Clinical Guidelines Council and received a VA Undersecretary’s Appreciation Award. He was one of the first investigators to receive peer-reviewed funding for studying the implementation of clinical decision support in VA. He served on the VA Quality Enhancement Research Initiative Review Board for 5 years and helped train VA’s new Implementation Research Coordinators. He was founding PI on a Center of Excellence Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which established the Center for Implementing Evidence-based Practice in Indianapolis. As COE Director, he led the development, funding, recruitment and building external funding over the next seven years to over 20 faculty and a multifold increase in funding. He has reviewed guidelines and publications for the National Institute of Medicine and CDC’s Immunization Practices Advisory Committee. He is on the Medical Executive Committee for NuLife Solutions, a medical device company. He has served on multiple review panels for NIH, AHRQ and VA, including AHRQ’s Health Systems and Value Research Panel, and NIH's Mobile Applications in Low and Middle Income Countries, and NSF’s Partnerships for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity. He also regularly reviews for multiple medical and health services journals, including NEJM, JAMA, Am J Epidemiol, Med Care and JAMIA.
He is on the Medical Executive Committee for NuLife Solutions, a medical device company.
