Cindy is a graduate student in the archaeology approach. She is interested in Paleolithic archaeology, particularly in stone tools and cultural evolution. Since humans have used material culture in order to adapt to life in all environments across the globe, she is particularly interested in questions of innovation and biocultural evolution. Her dissertation work looks at the emergence and dispersal of microliths across Eurasia during the late Pleistocene as a way of understanding innovation and cultural diffusion during the prehistoric past.
Cindy completed her MA at the University of Victoria. Her SSHRC funded project, titled, “Tracing Ice Age Communities: 3D Modeling Finger Fluting Sites in the Franco-Cantabrian”, was an experimental archaeology project that tested the suitability of 3 different types of 3D scanning technologies to document a form of Paleolithic rock art called finger flutings.
She was part of the field school at the Middle to Upper Paleolithic site of Šalitrena Pećina in Serbia and was also part of the archaeological excavation team at Pinnacle Point 5-6 in South Africa, and Hohle Fels in Germany.
Outside of research, Cindy's hobbies include watching baseball, drawing, creative writing, and playing video games.
