Kerry Fine earned her doctorate in English from Texas Tech University. While at Tech, she participated in the Literature, Social Justice, and Environment Initiative in the Department of English. Her area of scholarship is 19th through 21st century American literature, film, and television. She is particularly interested in issues of race, gender, and place/environment. Her current project explores the cultural myths, tropes, and spaces deployed in the figuration of the American frontier and the U.S./Mexico borderlands. It specifically investigates both how monster narratives are deployed in the ongoing Othering of the non-Anglo American and how minority authors subvert the figure of the monster to reconfigure American identities and spaces in a postcolonial, postmodern moment. She has also researched and published in women's and gender studies, ecocriticism, and multicultural American literature.
- Ph.D. English Literature (American Literature, Multicultural American Literature, Theory and Ecocriticism), Texas Tech University. Dissertation: More Human Than Human: American Monsters. Supervised by Prof. Sara L. Spurgeon.
- M.A. English Literature, University of Montana. Thesis: Community, Body, and Landscape: Construction of Place in Molly Gloss’s "The Dazzle of Day" and Ursula K. Le Guin’s "Always Coming Home." Supervised by Prof. David L. Moore.
- B.A. English Creative Writing, University of Montana
