Sara Knowles received her bachelor’s degree from Creighton University in 2017, with a major in biology and a minor in neuropsychology. As an undergraduate she spent three years studying the molecular mechanisms of the ketogenic diet in drug-resistant epilepsy, which resulted in a first author publication. Immediately following graduation, Sara joined the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience at Arizona State University where her research focuses on the role of genetic mutations in brain development and childhood disease. Under the guidance of Dr. Jason Newbern, Sara is working to understand how inhibitory neuron development and function is affected by mutations in the MAP Kinase pathway.
