Dr. Frank Dillon joined the faculty of the School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology in 2017. His research is scientifically-oriented and informs interdisciplinary efforts to eliminate health disparities in the United States. More specifically, his work (1) elucidates cultural and psychosocial determinants of health including psychological distress, substance use, and HIV and (2) promotes interventions and educational efforts addressing health equity.
Since 2002, he has published on these topics in outlets such as the Journal of Counseling Psychology, The Counseling Psychologist, Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, and Psychology of Addictive Behaviors among others. He also has received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Institute for Mental Health Research. Furthermore, he has served as a reviewer for the NIH, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), among others funding agencies addressing health and health disparities.
While Dr. Dillon is primarily a researcher, he is also a licensed psychologist in the State of Arizona and a Division 17 / Society of Counseling Psychology Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
He has served the profession by being on the editorial boards of the Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling, and The Counseling Psychologist.
Finally, Dr. Dillon has enjoyed teaching an array of graduate and undergraduate courses at ASU including Assessment & Diagnosis, Prevention & Consultation, Social Bases of Behavior, Addictions I - Foundations and Basic Principles, Research Methods in Counseling Psychology, Advanced Counseling Theories and Internship in Counseling.

Dr. Dillon's research interests are (1) studying psychological, cultural and social determinants of health (e.g., psychological distress, substance use, and HIV) and (2) promoting efforts to achieve health equity via interventions and education.
