Julia (Iuliia) Inozemtseva is a Teaching Associate Professor at Arizona State University at the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. She joined ASU in 2017. Prior to teaching at ASU, she pursued research in mathematical biology during her doctoral program at the University of Utah. She received her second master's in math at Georgia Southern University, were she became interested in applied mathematics and math education.Inozemtseva grew up in Ukraine, in the beautiful city Odesa. She received her first master's with honors in pure mathematics at Odesa I. I. Mechnykov National University in 2012.
Inozemtseva's primary research interests have been in differential equations, mathematical biology and math education. Under Dr. Frederick R. Adler' supervision, she was modeling epidemics spread in hospitals at the University of Utah. She had a chance to work with Veterans Affairs SPIRIT group on modeling of antibiotic resistant diseases spread (MRSA, CDiff) as part of the CDC Solutions Initiative program to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Inozemtseva actively advocates for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at ASU and SoMSS. Being an active member of Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM), she uses her international experience to support and advocate for women in STEM. Additionally, she creates and gives unique talks about struggles of ESL and International Students is the USA. Inozemtseva actively supported and mentored many international students and faculty.
As a proud Ukranian, Inozemtseva actively promotes Ukrainian culture and participates in many multicultural events in Arizona. She also works on mentoring and supporting higher education in Ukraine:

Mathematical Modeling in Medicine: Epidemiology, Cancer, and Superbugs
This class will delve into the fascinating world of mathematical modeling as it applies to critical medical challenges. We will explore how mathematical models can be constructed to describe and predict the spread of epidemics, focusing on real-world cases such as COVID-19, Ebola, and malaria.
Additionally, we’ll examine systems of differential equations that model cancer dynamics and tumor growth, as well as drug interventions.
Finally, we will discuss the urgent modern challenge of combating superbugs—antibiotic-resistant bacteria—through mathematical approaches that inform medical interventions and policy-making.
This course aims to bridge theory and practice, providing students with a foundation in mathematical modeling that has direct applications in the medical field.
A shorter description:
In this class, we’ll build mathematical models to understand and predict epidemic spreads, focusing on real-world cases such as COVID-19, Ebola, and malaria. We’ll also explore differential equations that model cancer growth and drug interventions, as well as tackle the pressing issue of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, or superbugs. This course connects mathematical theory with real-world medical challenges.
_____________
Mathematics behind Image Recognition and Machine Learning
This course explores the mathematics of image and text recognition, using examples of fourier transform and backpropagation in neural networks. We’ll also tackle the challenges of training models to improve traffic flow with autonomous vehicles, covering everything from data collection and theorem proofs to safe real-world implementation (CIRCLES project) .

Mathematicians Defending Earth: NASA Planetary Defense Research
In this class we will learn about NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission and the essential role of mathematicians in planetary defense. We’ll explore applications of vector calculus, Navier-Stokes equations, Keplerian orbits, two-body problem models, Bayesian models, and orbital mechanics—all vital tools for protecting Earth from potential asteroid impacts

Dynamics of Biological Systems: Mathematical Modeling of Species Interactions
This class explores the mathematical modeling of species interactions through two examples. First, we will discuss the Lotka-Volterra Omnivory Model used in the wolf restoration efforts at Yellowstone National Park.
Second, we’ll create and analyze models of vampire-human interactions to tackle the age-old question: can coexistence truly be achieved?
