David Sklar

Dr. David Sklar is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine for the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering and an emergency physician. He is former Editor-in-Chief of Academic Medicine, the leading journal in medical education in the US. He is an author or co-author of more than 300 articles in medical literature focused on medical education, injury prevention, global health and clinical care topics and has published three books. He served as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow in 2011-2012 in the Senate Finance Committee during the time of the Affordable Care Act. He was a Fulbright Senior Fellow in Dublin Ireland at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical School in 2021-2023. He is former chair of emergency medicine and associate dean of graduate medical education at the University of New Mexico and served as President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He was recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Sklar has been a professor in the ASU College of Health Solutions for the past eight years teaching High Value Health Care along with Health Humanities and History. He serves as senior advisor to the university provost.
