Long Bio
Alex Gilbert is a teaching associate for ASU's Writing Programs and doctoral student in the Linguistics & Applied Linguistics Program. His research interests meet at the intersection of linguistics, anthropology, and philosophy. He is particularly interested in i) the relationship between gender, sexuality, and language, especially concerning transgender identities and childhoods, ii) interdisciplinary and ecological approaches to language variation and change in the Southeastern and Appalachian United States, and iii) the history of linguistic and semiotic inquiry, with special focus on French structuralism and "poststructuralism(s)" in the mid- to late-twentieth century. He is from Knoxville, Tennessee, and received his B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Linguistics from the University of Tennessee in 2016.
