I have worked in both in academia and in industry as a technical writer. I received my PhD at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Prior to joining ASU, I was an Associate Professor of Technical Communication at the University of North Texas where I conducted eye tracking research in usability contexts. I have also worked in industry as a technical communicator at Hampford Research, (a chemical company in Connecticut) where I worked on documenting standard operating procedures and writing documentation for the EPA.

I am interested in visual design, usability, and technical communication. I have published research in the areas of eye-tracking, usability, industry/service learning projects, and the visual evolution of television news and web news presentation. I have completed several grants, which funded my research in eye-tracking.
I belong to the Arizona Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication and regularly attend their monthly meetings.
