Michael McAveety earned a Master of Arts from the Arizona State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2021. He is a Faculty Associate in the Arizona State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Police Sergeant serving in Prince George's County, Maryland, which is located on the eastern border of Washington, D.C. He is currently a supervisor in the Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit, where he specializes in the investigation of homicides, police-involved shootings, and suspicious deaths. Prior to joining the Homicide Unit, he served as a patrol officer and as a detective specializing in the suppression and investigation of robberies, carjackings, and other violent crimes. During his time as an investigative supervisor, he has taught blocks of instruction on homicide investigation at the Prince George’s County Police Basic Investigator School and the City of Bowie Citizen’s Police Academy. In his current assignment, he leads a team of five detectives and is responsible for the investigation of approximately thirty homicides per year.
