Madhurima Guha comes from the background of literature and cultural studies, the reason which she decided to pursue her BA and MA in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata, India. It is during this time she was introduced to the world of feminist literary tradtions, works and theories that got her engrossed into understanding politics of gender and Sexuality in popular culture, and thus paved her way into earning an Mphil in Women's Studies, JU and finally into her Phd in Gender Studies, ASU . Hailing from Kolkata, a seat of major international and multicultural intersections, she was forever interested in understanding how cultural influxes shape and influence futurity of ,marginalized communities and identities . Her Doctoral thesis therefore focusses on aging female sexualities, desires and their representations in popular cultures ( cinema, advertisements and magazines) in both in India and America in connection with grounded theory and phenomenology.
PhD in Gender Studies, Arizona State University ( 2019- pursuing)
Mphil in Women's Studies, Jadavpur University (2015-2017) Thesis-- Screening Dance: Nation, Gender and Bollywood (1940-2000)
MA in Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University (2011-2013)
BA in Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University (2008-2011)
My Doctoral research focuses on politics of representations of love, pleasure, sexual desire, and bodies of ageing and elderly hetero/homosexual women in Indian and American popular culture (cinema & advertisements). I also explore how these images create a significant impact in our socio-cultural psyche and impact futurity of these women who are subject to ageist criticism. The ultimate aim of my research is to theorize the ways in which the intersectional discrimination of agiesm impacts women espeically their sexual/desirous selves.
