An Arizona native, Julia toured as a soloist with flamenco companies based in New York, Madrid, Seville and Santa Fe for over a decade performing in Spain, Colombia, Mexico, and throughout the USA. Her company, Julia Chacon Flamenco Theatre, completed their fourth season at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in October, 2021. She was a 2019 finalist for the Arizona Governor's Arts Award and the Phoenix Mayor's Arts Award, a 2020 Artist in Residence at the Musical Instrument Museum (a Smithsonian affiliate), and a 2021 finalist for the Phoenix Mayor's Arts Award.
Julia taught workshops at Louisiana State University’s Dance Program (2014-2016), co-presented at TEDX LSU (2016), was an invited presenter at the National Conference of the National Dance Education Organization (2009), and has been featured on the Travel Channel with Samantha Brown as well as various publications. Her choreography was performed in the 50th Anniversary of the Shangahi Opera House in China. Julia was named a Master Artist and awarded a Folk Art Grant by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs of New Mexico.
Julia has taught flamenco arts education programs at eleven schools across three Valley districts and teaches in the private sector. She has authored and co-authored arts education curricula that has been implemented throughout the five Burroughs of New York, North Carolina, New Mexico, Louisana, and Arizona.
