Long Bio
Oluwabukola Makinde is a Ph.D Student in the Innovation in Global Development program in the School For the Future of Innovation in Society at Arizona State University. She holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and a Masters in International Development and Public Policy. Oluwabukola's research interest focuses on how policies can be adopted or re-designed to create economic opportunities for women farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, she centers her discuss on a bottom-up approach through the engagement of farmer cooperatives in introducing agricultural innovations that improve productivity for women farmers. Additionally, she explores intrahousehold relationships and their impact on decision making and control of income among women farmers.
Oluwabukola has presented in conferences such as the IEEE symposium on Technology and Society, Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) Arizona State University, and has been invited to give a talk on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 5 "Gender Equality" at the 2020 SDG Nugget Hour in London, United Kingdom.
Oluwabukola has previously worked as a consultant, a writer, editor, researcher, and program aide for community development NGOs like Habitat for Humanity, research think tanks, international development consortiums and many others. She is currently a teaching assistant and a research assistant at Arizona State University. Oluwabukola has experiences working in Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana and Guatamala.
