Dr. Sinmyung Park is a scholar-practitioner whose work bridges critical disability studies, human rights, and international development. He holds a PhD in Justice Studies from Arizona State University's School of Social Transformation, a Master's degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a Bachelor's degree from Kyung Hee University, Korea. He brings over a decade of experience spanning diplomatic service, military operations, international development, and university teaching.
His scholarly interests include the politics of disability inclusion in the Global South, epistemic justice and knowledge translation in development practice, the institutional limits of rights-based frameworks, and the intersections of gender, disability, and structural violence. He has published academic and media articles during his doctoral career.
Prior to his doctoral studies, he accumulated experience in diplomacy, security, and multilateral affairs. He served as a political researcher at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Myanmar. He served with NATO forces in Afghanistan. He also worked with the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations in Geneva, grounding his early career in the mechanics of multilateral human rights advocacy.
He currently serves as Project Manager for the KOICA-KFHI Official Development Assistance (ODA) project titled "Support for Persons with Disabilities and Raising Disability Awareness in Western Uganda," based in Fort Portal. In this capacity, he oversees inclusive education programming, vocational training integration, and institutional capacity-building with partners including Uganda's National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
