Joseph Karanja
Joseph Karanja is a PhD student in Geographic Information Science at Arizona State University’s School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. He holds a Master’s degree in Geosciences (Geography) from Georgia State University. His research examines the complex intersections of climate, society, and health, with a focus on heat vulnerability. By integrating socioeconomic and environmental dimensions, Karanja investigates the drivers of heat risk across multiple spatial and temporal scales. His work also evaluates how spatial–statistical methods shape the identification of vulnerable populations and places, providing critical insights for the design of evidence-based, place-specific policies that promote resilience and public health equity.
