Mariam Galarrita is an assistant professor in the Department of English, formerly a postdoctoral fellow, and member of the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. She was the founder and director of the Race and the Premodern Period Speaker Series at University of California at Riverside. Her research focuses on early modern English drama, travel, science and science fiction, premodern critical race studies, racial trauma, and language. She is also interested in precolonial Philippines and the Spanish Manila Galleon trade route. She is currently working on an essay on Margaret Cavendish's The Blazing World for the Oxford Companion on Margaret Cavendish. Her book project explores premodern science fiction and race. Her teaching interests include Shakespeare, Global Literature, and Asian American fiction.
