Nisansala (Nisa) Ganewatta is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences (SMNS) at New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, ASU-West campus. She obtained her bachelor's degree majoring in Chemistry, and minoring in Microbiology and Botany, from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Her undergraduate thesis work was based on a study of chemical composition of atmospheric bulk deposition in an industrialized area in Sri Lanka. She earned her doctorate degree in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University in 2017 under the advisement of Regents Professor Ziad El Rassi. Her dissertation title was “Nanostructured material based monolithic stationary phases for high performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrochromatography of a wide range of species”. After obtaining her PhD, Dr. Ganewatta returned to Sri Lanka and joined the Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Open University of Sri Lanka, as a Senior Lecturer. She came back to the USA with her family in 2018 and served as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor/Assistant at the Department of Chemistry, University of North Texas, Denton until she joined the Langston University, Oklahoma in 2020, as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Dr. Ganewatta joined the SMNS in 2021.
