Dr. Rashed Chowdhury, a former Fulbright Teaching Fellow at the Maldives National University, has an academic background in Civil Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, and Climate Variability and Change (PhD). As a postdoctoral fellow, he worked at the National Institute for Earth Science and Disasters Prevention (Japan) and the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (Columbia University, USA).
He is the former Principal Research Scientist of the ‘Pacific ENSO Applications Climate Center’ (PEAC) at the Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR) of the University of Hawaii. In the last 25 years, his activities were focused on addressing water challenges surrounding emergency management and implementation activities related to climate change/sea level rise, land-use planning and environmental resource management for the El Niño-Southern Oscillations (ENSO)-sensitive countries/islands in the Asia-Pacific region.
As an adjunct faculty of the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, his teaching and research area is focused on Water, Climate, and Society. He is teaching CEE 598/ 97872 (Topic: ENSO Applications and Early Warning Systems) in the fall of 2022.
