Hannah Glesener is a PhD student studying environmental toxin effects on the human gut microbiome and toxin mitigation through engineering interventions. Glesener came to ASU from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (B.S. Biological Sciences summa cum laude) where she studied opportunistic fungal pathogen effects on boreal forest aspen trees and nutritional challenges in rural Native Alaskan and college student populations. At ASU, she leverages her interdisciplinary Biological Design PhD program to approach challenges with tools from several disciplines including environmental engineering, microbiology, ecology, chemistry, and bioinformatics.
Originally from Seattle, Glesener enjoys being outdoors, sports, dogs, all things food, travel, woodworking, and books – especially narrative nonfiction such as The Devil in The White City by Erik Larson.
