Long Bio

Mary Cowx is an assistant professor of accountancy at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. She earned her Ph.D. in accounting from The Ohio State University in 2021. Before pursuing her doctorate, she spent a decade in tax practice, including roles as a tax manager at KPMG and the Hearst Corporation. Her research examines tax policy and enforcement and their implications for innovation, business decisions, and financial reporting. Her work has been published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics and Contemporary Accounting Research. She teaches Taxes and Business Decisions, an introductory course on business and individual taxation, and received the Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award in 2026.
